M2 antibodies are significant for the clinical diagnosis of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC).  Individuals who test positive for these antibodies, even in the absence of disease signs, are very likely to develop PBC.  Anti-M2 antibodies are present in approximately 95% of PBC-patients.
